Nashoba Park
Ayer, MA
Nashoba Park is a 73 unit assisted living community comprised of a variety of interesting common spaces and one and
two bedroom units for the residents. Located in a residential neighborhood and hidden away in the center of Historic
Ayer, the former Ayer Community Hospital underwent a $6 million renovation to convert it into this ideal use for the
region’s population.
Nashoba Park was established by the Volunteers for America, the nation’s largest not-for-profit provider of affordable
housing for the elderly and disabled. While most of the residents are from the immediate area, the appeal of the
community has resulted in more individuals coming from the region who appreciate country living and casual sensibility.
CURRIER was brought on the team to create a warm and inviting environment within a modest budget. Special care was
needed to ensure that durable and longwearing products were specified. Our design team met this creative
challenge and delivered interiors that others consider to be beautiful and durable. Residents communicate that
they feel comfortable and “at home” in this community. This enriching environment was developed by maintaining a
balance of color, texture, pattern and style.
The focal point of the common areas is the grand living room that has a feeling of country elegance. The living
room, adjacent to a large light-filled sunroom, is a perfect place to sit while sipping morning coffee or just watching
the activities in the courtyard. All in all, the interiors connect with the exterior landscaping and support the
architect’s excellent design to truly deliver easy to live in spaces, which also reflect the needs of the staff.
