Emerson Hospital
Concord,
MA
Our work with Emerson Hospital has involved the development of a Building Finishes and Furniture Standards Program and the design of a variety of space throughout the hospital based on these standards. The Standards Program was developed with the hospital's management team to provide a master color scheme for building finishes and furniture and fabrics to be used on an ongoing basis.
The Sub Acute Unit was designed incorporating a garden theme to ensure that the unit was bright and cheerful. It included a large wall mural depicting a Concord garden and hand stenciled flowers and vines over each patient’s room.
The Bethke Cancer Center, developed in concert with Mass General Hospital, was a multi-million dollar project with created a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center. CURRIER worked closely with the hospital physicians, architect and general contractor to develop the building finishes, furniture, artwork and accessories appropriate to create the desired environment.
Emerson Hospital’s Breast Care Center is located in a satellite building across the street from the main hospital campus. Hospital officials again relied on CURRIER as they sought to position the unit as the premier regional facility for breast health. The hospital’s strategy to achieve this goal included service upgrades, unit expansion and full renovation to include a custom architectural layout that accommodates multiple functionalities and space requirements.
The design challenge was to comfortably accommodate the staff of 12-15 professionals plus medical equipment, as well as create private and pleasant areas for patients to receive services or discuss critical issues. CURRIER coordinated and implemented the design of three separate waiting areas, six treatment rooms, a photo area, and patient education center featuring state of the art computer stations.
The concept for achieving the best look, feel and functionality for this vitally important service environment was to create a spa-like feeling. Color palates chosen for wall coverings include subtle tones of sea green and sand, which complement custom carpet featuring sand-colored swirls. These practical yet highly visible design elements promote an inspired mood by creating the atmosphere of a seaside resort. In addition, a custom wall with artist-inspired rippled glass is both a visual delight and calming influence for visitors and staff to enjoy. Other subtle and value-enhancing design elements include live plants, comfortable furniture with luxurious yet durable fabrics, and upgraded surfaces of limestone and granite.
Our on-going work with Emerson Hospital includes the SCORE Project, a multi million-dollar renovation and addition for a new and updated Surgical Center, Interventional Radiology and Post Partum Unit. We are also working on their Main Street Project that involves updating the interiors for the front lobby and main corridor, as well as the Coffee Shop and Cafeteria renovations.
