POSITION DESCRIPTION

Senior Designer

Goal: To lead the creation and development of interior designs to deliver environments which embody the values of our clients and meet or exceed their expectations.
   

 

Objectives: 1.

To ensure design projects are completed on time, at or below budget on target and delivered on time and within our internal estimates for time and costs.

  2.

To direct the creation of new environments that foster achievement of the above goal.

  3. To contribute to the growth of this company and its team members.
   
Scope: This position is filled by a full-time team member who is an accomplished interior design professional. It encompasses all design, interior architecture and space planning activities and interacts with purchasing and installation support functions. It includes contributing to the development of strong working relationships with clients and to the evolution of the creative foundation and reputation of the business. Travel is required - it is dependent upon the location of clients and the requirements of each project.

Major Responsibilities:  

1. Maintain Awareness of Marketplace - Maintain awareness of trends in society, architecture, design and the interior design industry. Keep current on new products, relevant code requirements, and general needs for the categories of clients we serve. Contribute to having appropriate resource information and samples for future and current projects. Be considered as the “go to” person for one or more areas of specialization. We want to be and be known as contemporary and knowledgeable with all aspects of the design world for the benefit of our clients.
   
2. Contribute to Plans - When appropriate, contribute to the development of CURRIER's long range and annual plans with a focus on design services activities. We want to ensure that the team is prepared and competent to achieve agreed upon goals and objectives. We want to ensure that a broad design perspective is included in our plan.
   
3. Foster New Business - Identify and gather facts about potential new business opportunities on a weekly basis. Be pro-active to foster relationships and set up meetings to explore opportunities. Contribute to proposals required to develop new clients/projects. We want to be pro-active about all potential opportunities.

Create Design Concepts - Lead the development of unique design concepts, master plans, space plans, etc. which meet the objectives of clients for their plans or projects. Ensure that all relevant information is researched, gathered and that details are accounted for to execute agreed upon concepts and designs per established schedules and budgets. Ensure communications is adequate to keep client contacts and other project team members knowledgeable and informed about. We want to be a creative team with strong project management capabilities who are considered to be excellent communicators.

   
5. Develop Team Members - Organize, direct, support, train/instruct and develop assigned design team members. Ensure that work is organized and accomplished effectively and efficiently in preparing for and completing design initiatives and projects. Ensure information required by other team members is accurate and provided as scheduled or when needed. We want to be an effective team comprised of competent individuals who enjoy their work experience.
   
6. Maintain Strong Communications and Working Relationships - Keep all team members informed of decisions, instructions and accomplishments that may or do impact a project. Maintain a creative spirit and positive attitude. Seek out and develop working relationships With project team members, individuals on client teams and the independent resources required to develop our design capacity and execute projects and programs. We want to be and be known as people with whom others enjoy doing business.

Other Responsibilities:  

1. Undertake Special Projects - Undertake special projects when requested by and agreed to with supervisor. We want to be responsive to all client needs and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications:

Be considered a pro-active, take charge and professional designer. Possess a proactive attitude toward life and work and share and support the foundation and core values of the company.

1. Experience:
     
  a.)

Education – Possess a college degree in interior design or architecture/art with significant credits in relevant design courses.

     
  b.)

ID Experience - Have eight or more years experience in creative roles working on interior design projects or six or more years with a NCIDQ Certification. This would include the following minimums:

    (1)

Lead development of creative concepts – 4 years

    (2) Manage the project team – 4 years
    (3)

Develop FF&E cost estimates – 4 years

    (4)

Produce ID specifications – 4 years

    (5)

Make client presentations of projects – 4 years

    (6)

Design window treatments and develop specifications – 1 year

    (7)

Develop proposals for new project work – 2 years

  c.)

Types of Project Experience – Have completed designs for a variety of project types to include healthcare, hospitality, corporate and/or residential.

  a.)

Creativity - Have demonstrated the ability to develop a variety of creative environments and designs which have achieved client objectives.

Relationships - Have demonstrated the ability to develop and maintain open communications and a close working relationship with a variety of individual personalities and to have obtained their confidence.

Leadership - Able to lead, motivate and generate enthusiasm among other creative team members or resources toward the development and completion of a project.

3. Skills and Proficiencies:
     
  a.)

Communications - Have excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to make strong and convincing presentations to small and large audiences.

     
  b.)

Computer Skills - Possess keyboard proficiency with PC based word processing, spread sheet, and data base software based upon a Windows/Microsoft Office networked system. Current and skilled with AUTOCAD LT and other relevant software and applications.

     
  c.)

Project Economics - Able to develop comprehensive and accurate estimates for building finishes and FF&E items.

     
  d.)

Project Coordination - Able to work within established processes to direct multiple resources working on multiple projects toward the development and completion of the projects as planned, created and within budget. This includes the development and execution of project schedules, cost estimates and time/task schedules for team members.

     
  e.)

Time Management - Able to establish priorities given multiple requests and to accomplish tasks according to previously agreed upon schedules.

     
  f.)

Teamwork - Able to accommodate a flexible schedule in response to client/team/project requirements. Known as communicative, cooperative, timely and responsive in an honest and open manner. Effective working up, down and across an organization.

     
  g.)

Technical Knowledge – Possess in-depth technical knowledge in one or more areas of interest, (green design, lighting, design software applications, design appreciation, etc).

Plus Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in interior design.

2. Prior experience as a senior or project designer or project manager on large scale projects.

3. Proficiency using specialized ID related software (Photoshop, Sketchup, Revit, etc).
